From NaNO3 to KNO3
« on: March 10, 2016, 02:36:53 PM »
n the place where I live, there's only sodium nitrate available. But there is also diet salt available in the same grocery store with 70% KCl and 30% NaCl. (cannot buy potassium carbonate or potassium bicarbonate because its not available.

>Planning to dissolve 10g of NaNO3 in hot boiling water in a beaker

>In the same beaker add the 5g of the salt mix

>Then stir it a lot and set to medium heat

But here is waht dont know what to do after, should I:

A) Crystallize the mixture

B) Boil the mixture

C)Pour the soulution in a filter paper

NaNO3 + NaCl + KCl  :rarrow:  ???

You method won't give you much KNO3.  Furthermore, it will be mixed with NaCl, and NaNO3, and those are also similar in properties, it will be too difficult to purify.  If you can convince a vendor you're allowed to have it, they would gladly sell it to you.  If you can't justify having it, then you shouldn't have it, by any means.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
