Help me with a reaction´s mechanism of imines
« on: March 15, 2016, 02:01:23 PM »
Thnak you,

I have readed about the traditional synthesis mechanism to produce imines, in the books show that imine is a product where before an aldehyde and an amine reactioned, imine is a functional group or chemical compound containing a carbon–nitrogen double bond.

But, how can I form an imine if I put in a reaction: An aldehyde, primary amine, and a epoxide? I can´t understand the reaction of mechanism.

I suggest you temporarily disregard the epoxide for a moment.  Can an aldehyde and an amine form an imine?

Check this link. It might help you understand the reaction mechanism of imine formation.

ps. you dont need epoxide. It would just mess things up.
