I have some water samples collected from the high sea. The salinity ranged between 22,000 and 50 mg/l. With the normal COD method, I am getting values as high as 3,450mg/l. How can I reduce the Chloride level to get the correct COD level. Literature search indicates that the COD level should ranged between 1.8 to 5.9mg/l.

50mg/l of chloride does not seem to me so high, there is a big interference at this levet ?

Have you tried a dilution with purified water? What do you get?
