Will chloroform dissolve a cellulose sponge?
« on: December 05, 2016, 04:35:24 PM »
I'm making a small chloroform vapour bath for 3D printing and would like to prevent spillage by soaking it into a cellulose sponge. (I know I need to be careful with it and that it's a suspected carcinogen).

I'd be very surprised if it did. Why not test it out?

Can you think of a way to check if any cellulose is dissolved in your chloroform?

I guess if turbidity doesn't indicate that the cellulose is dissolving then maybe allowing the chloroform to evaporate afterwards in a suitable place would leave the cellulose behind.

Yes, exactly.
