Usual charge of the element mercury

Good evening,

My question is "What is the usual charge of the element mercury?" I thought the usual charge of the element mercury could be +1 or +2 depending on what compound it's in. Is that correct?

Every texbook on general or inorganic chemistry contains this information, moreover any periodic table.
In the case of lack of this sources you may search Wikipedia.

If you haven't figured it out its neither :P

edit: unless you weren't specifically talking about ELEMENTAL mercury but a mercury COMPOUND like mercury nitrate.
