Problem with the reaction of 13th group element with water
« on: December 11, 2016, 10:27:35 PM »
I was studying about boron family and I found that in this group only Al react water to form hydroxide but not B, Ga or In.
Can anyone tell me why it is the case?

Hi there.  I've fixed a typo, and split off a conversation that was going nowhere.

As a metaloid, I don't boron to form a hydroxide at all.  Aluminum, free of its protective oxide layer only reacts very slowly with water.  The others are just simply not as reactive, for some reason.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
