Ok thank you
instead if I want to balance this equation
HNO3 + C2H6O + K2Cr2O7 --> KNO3 + C2H4O + H2O + Cr(NO3)3
so first thing first
This is what I think, please tell me where I do wrong.
Carbon: n.o. from -2 ( in C2H6O) to -1 ( in C2H4O) so it gets oxidized
Chromium: n.o. from +6 ( in K2Cr2O7) to +3 ( in Cr(NO3)3) so it gets reduced
Now, I have troubles in writing the 2 half reaction
For example, when I write the half reaction for oxidation, which has carbon, do I have to write the entire formula ( C2H6O) or just carbon or carbon and oxyxen?
