phenylacetone - C9H10O
benzaldehyde - C7H6O
acetic acid - Câ‚‚Hâ‚„Oâ‚‚

in solution of methanol

C7H6O + C2H4O2 + 2H2SO4 + 2Fe → C9H10O + 2H2O + 2FeSO4

I wonder if this equation is possible. Will the sulfuric acid do the job?
I am quiet new to organic chemistry and i really want to improve.
Where can i find more knowledge about my flaws. (Electronegativity and organic chemistry basics)
Every link or answer is a help

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with electronegativity - can you expand?

In addition, I don't think that the reaction you've written will work - not sure if the iron will affect things but you may instead form e.g. the dimethyl acetal from the aldehyde.

Do you have a source for the reaction as written?

Consider the stickies at the top of the forums for book suggestions.
