« on: July 06, 2006, 11:06:01 AM »
CH3-CH2-CH=CH-CH2 + HBr ---------> ??

according to Markownikoffs addition rule, the -ve part of adding reagent goes to C atom having less no of H atoms accross double bond but in above compound,  C atoms accross double bond are same lol.

Wouldn't a mixture of both products be formed in this case since both carbon atoms in the double bond are secondary?

Yeah, that sounds right.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex
