Synthesis of amides with EDC and HOBt

I'm planning to run some coupling reactions with carboxylic acid and amine, using EDC and HOBt, to make amides. I was wondering if the reaction would still work if I were to use carboxylic acid salt, instead of the neutral carboxylic acid?
