Will estherrification happen?
« on: September 07, 2004, 12:42:37 AM »
u see i reacted 2 mols of 4-chlorobenzoic acid to 1 mol of Copper nitrate after reacting the benzoic acid with Na2CO3

so i assume that according to the theory, a dimer complex with 2 Copper and 4 (4-chlorobenzoate) ligands should form.

the ligands are coordinately bonded to the Copper by the resonance of  the COO group.
at this point, is estherrification with 6M H2SO4 and EtOH possible?
what esther would it form?
will the coordinate bond with copper allow such reaction?

Sulfuric acid, if use in excess, can destroy copper chlorobenzoate.
