What does heat do as a reaction step?
« on: April 06, 2018, 06:11:48 PM »
For letter a, I am unsure on what the "heat" step is supposed to do.

For b and c, I'm not sure in what the difference between using sodium and potassium is.

Can you think of any rearrangement reactions that can occur when heat is applied?

In part (c) you showed that the reaction forms the ortho product. Why is it ortho selective? Thinking about that might help you work out why using KOH can make a difference.
