Hi
I am writing a report for an assignment and am struggling to find anything online about what larger/smaller enthalpy change values indicate and was wondering if anyone can help?
For example I have written for a reaction where the ΔH = +68 kJ mol that this is the smallest value out of the examples because the breaking of bonds in reactants and making of bonds in the products balance each other out.
I want to include something similar for the following to explain why it is such a large value:
C3H8 + 5O2 → 3CO2 + 4H2O ΔH = -2220kJ mol–1
Does a large/small enthalpy change value indicate anything in particular about the reactions or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks in advance!
