Proper technique for use of glass wool filter
« on: July 13, 2018, 10:51:59 PM »
I am interested in proper technique of setting up a glass filter for KMnO filtration. I have purchased pyrex glass wool for this purpose. Do i just take a ball of it and set it into a funnel? do i need to compress it into the funnels stem? Do i control the particle size by how much i compress it?
Is there a write up on proper technique for its use?
All of my google searches for use of glass filter are contaminated with results about smoking using glass filters....

I have a ceramic filter holder for a vacuum flask, 100mm diameter, i guess i could "spread" the glass wool on that, but that might bee a bit too loose for  just 1L of KMnO4 of filtration.

My specific application is for filtration of KMnO4, however i am interested in general application notes/directions as well.

Thanks ahead
