Stuck on this and I haven't seen any credible articles (that I can understand) that covers this. I have learned off of wikipedia that it is paramagnetic but I have no idea why.

I've seen no mention of a paramagnetic ion in Wiki's article about barium. The only statement I saw there is about the metal.
