Quality control
« on: August 04, 2006, 07:25:25 AM »
Hi,

I'd like to know if there is any quality control for methanol, nitromethane, synthetics oil available? If possible, please give me a copy or link.

Thanks,

Generally, whoever makes the chemical tests tests it to make sure it is of high enough purity.  At a minimum for a volatile chemical, gas chromatography is performed to ensure a minimum purity level.  Additionally, water content and density are usually tested.  The link below is for methanol from Fisher Scientific.  Fisher also makes nitromethane.  The level of testing depends on the application.  Synthetic oils are much more complex and might only have the viscosity and density listed (check a Castrol or Mobil site).
