colour of the atoms(ions)

Hi,

 All the atoms(ions) have some specific colour.For Example copper-blue and so on.
My question is, is there any way to find the colour otherthan to by heart all the colours of theatoms(ions).
Does energy level(Balmer,brackett,paschen etc)has anything to do with this.
Can we aly the formula RZ^2((1/n1^2)-(1/n2^2)

No. Reality is much more complicated than that. This formula doesn't account for the electron interactions, it works only for single electron atoms.

Look at them.

Seriously - even the most sophisticated quantum calculations methods that can be used to predict compound color can occasionally produce wrong results. And we are talking about methods that require hours of computer work, not a thing that you can easily try to do on paper.

In general these methods work, and they are better yaer by year, but it is still in most cases easier to do a simple experiment than to precisely calculate energy levels.
