Question about Half-Life
« on: April 07, 2019, 12:45:38 PM »
55Cr decays by emitting a β- particle. This decay process has a half-life of 3.50 min. Answer the following questions about this process and report all answers to three significant figures.

1. Determine the initial activity (in dis/min) of a 6.64 mg sample of this isotope. Report your answer to three significant figures in scientific notation.

2. Determine the time (in min) that it takes for the activity of 55Cr to decrease to 1.37×108 dis/min.

I just wonder how to produce that amount of a nuclide with short life. Injecting the precursor in a 1400MWe nuclear reactor may suffice, but probably not. In a salted bomb, yes.
