extracting sulfuric acid from battery
« on: March 08, 2006, 10:57:03 AM »
how is it possible to extraced sulfuric acid from the battery without the addition of PbO4. is there a way to get rid of the lead oxide, and only taking the sulfuric acid. or is there another method to get sulfuric acid.
iam just trying to work on a experiment that involves sulfuric acid

Hmm..if the battery is full the oxide is isolated on the electrodes, so you could simply pour the acid off the battery.
Beware: Sulfuric acid in car batteries is pretty concentrated w=30-35%, so be careful....
I would buy some sulfuric acid - it's safer than pouring it off a car battery!

Yes, you can get Sulfuric Acid this way.  If the battery is fully charged you shouldn't have any problem with PbO4.  As stated earlier there are easier ways to obtain H2SO4.  The acid won't be highly concentrated but it would work for most experiments.
