What are some good books that fit that description? I'm not referring to books focused on just nuclear or organic chemistry or something like that. I feel that if I read from such a type of book, I'll be prepared enough for the USNCO to get to the study camp and hopefully IChO. I will start with my AP book (taking AP Chem this year; got an 800 on  the SAT Chem this spring after my introductory course), and then do this next book if there is a recommendation.

Thanks.

There are many general chemistry textbook that will meet your requirements.

Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

Mitch, I have heard that Gneral Chemistry by Linus Pauling is really good, but is it worth buying it since I have the AP Chemistry book by Brown/LeMay/Burnstein already? I saw this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0750633654/104-6480675-6109521?v=glance&n=283155

Is that good for beyond AP?

IChO2007: Its very difficult to learn any Chemistry from that. Its meant as a reference for those who already know significant amounts of Chemistry.
