im designing an experiment to find the order of reaction in relation to an acid:
2HCl + Mg -----------> MgCl2 + H2
i am doing it by monitoring the rate at which H2 is expelled and have calculated it such that 0.1 g of Mg will give exactly 100 cm3 of gas.
to find the order of reaction in relation to the acid, do i have to keep the acid concentration constant?
i have tried by keeping it in excess but if the reaction uses 10.4cm3 of acid at a conc of [0.8], does a total volume of 20 cm3 of acid provide a great enough excess?
if not what is the effect of this??
please help as i am very confused
