How do I solve this?
« on: January 22, 2020, 06:11:08 PM »
An adult female who weighs 164 lb consumes on average 2.870 × 10^3 Cal/day. If she wants to lose 20.0 lb in 497 days, what should her daily caloric intake (Calories per day) be to achieve this weight loss?

Ok, i thought there might be something like that.

Ok so, i'm really lost on this one and don't even know where to start but let's see.

Should i know how many Cals are in a pound? So 3500 calories in a pound. And i'd need to know how many calories a day would...honestly i have no idea on this question. I'm so frustrated and I feel our professor really didn't go over anything like this question.

If there are 3500 calories in a pound how many are in 20? Then you'll get how much less she needs to eat for 497 days. Then to get how much less she needs to eat per day just divide by 497.

So you'd say there are 70,000 calories in 20lbs. She eats 2,870 a day x 497 = 1426390 cal in 497 days. But she needs to eat 70,000 less in that time period so you'd subtract 70,000 from 1426390? = 1356390 divided by 497 = 2729 cal/day? Is that right?
