When benzene consists of CH3 and COOH why we named it tolualdehyde (making of terepthalic acid)?The aldehyde supposed to be more priority than R alkyl, so the name is methyl benzaldehyde

-COOH is not aldehyde. It is a carbonic acid. Aldehyde is -CHO.
It would be p- Methyl benzoeic acid or p-Toluencarbonic acid.

4-Methylbenzaldehyde is an IUPAC name. Other names are commonly used synonyms.
