Hi, I read a chapter on acids and bases today and a question came up in my mind. I was wondering without referring to a table for Ka values, which carboxylic acid is stronger, CH3CH2COOH or CH3COCOOH? I'm guessing CH3COCOOH would be a stronger acid than propanoic acid because of the extra carbonyl group it posseses. This dipole is capable of withdrawing electrons from the -OH bond making the H of the carboxyl group more easily ionized.
Anyways, that is my guess. I look forward to hear from your insights. Thanks!!
