Hello Chemical Forums, I'm new here and I've always been bad at chemistry however I'm trying to do my best despite my lack of knowledge on this subject. Today I encounter this in my assignment and currently having a hard time trying to identify what's wrong with these compound names.
1.   Buta-1-one      ________________________________________
2.   Buta-4-one           ________________________________________
3.   Buta-3-one      ________________________________________
4.   2-Butanal              ________________________________________
5.   1-Ethanol              ________________________________________
I know this is simple but I will gladly appreciate all your help if you can help me with my assignment. Thank you in advance.

You have to show work to receive help. This is a forum policy. Although there is no calculation for this problem, you can still describe your thinking. You  must have some guesses. For instance, what do you know about aldehyde naming, re: #4.
