resonance structures on a benzene
« on: December 12, 2020, 12:04:38 AM »
Hi there, I'm struggling to answer this question attached below.

As you can see I've made attempts to assign charges and change the bonds around but I feel like I may have misplaced the positive charge, and for the first two, I don't even know why ChemDraw doesn't let me add a negative charge to =O !!! would you say these are 3 different resonance structures?

If anyone can point out any mistakes or has any feedback of these resonance structures I would really appreciate it!

Kind regards,

It's a bit unclear to me but don't forget charge and atom position must be conserved in these.

Consider pushing a lone pair from the methoxy oxygen onto the carbonyl; or from the amine through the ring to the ester

How are you calculating the formal charge?  Two of your structures are incorrect on one or more grounds.  I think it would help if you always included lone pairs.
