For the synthesis of BaTiO3, would it be expected that it would form faster at the surface of the TiO2 grains or BaO grains and why?

It is acid base reaction in molten state.

BaO is base, TiO2 is the acid .

So reaction will start on each surface similar fast.

My bet is it depends on the comparative mobility of Ti and Ba, which is in turn function of the interaction of atoms inside the crystal structure.
