Cost of a nuclear reactor
« on: October 04, 2006, 10:15:23 PM »
I have an essay to write, I have gathered all other information but am having a hard time finding the cost of a nuclear faciliity start up.  I was able to find the US $$ 1 kg of U3O8 but have no idea what it will cost for building a nuclear facility.

The more I read about nuclear energy, the less I favor it.

If everyone knew that plutonium (sp?) remians at harmfull radiation levels for 250,000 years its hard to concieve that we even use nuclear energy.

Thanks guys

My guess would be somewhere in the region of $3.5billion AUD or $2.8billion USD

I was hoping someone would have a link to a news article or something rather than an arbitrary number that I cant back up.

The point is to fission the Plutonium to generate energy.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Employees should do one thing: walk over there and you step on the friggin snake." - Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO of Glaxosmithkline, June 2006
