I dont understand this Hess Law graph. How can CH4 create C(s,graphite) H2 and O2 and the same thing with O2. Why is it saying step 1 and step 2. Can someone please explain this.

It isa comparison.
You can burn methane CH4 with oxygen to CO2 and water.
The same result you would have if you combine carbon (graphite) and hydrogen what gives the same amount methane and burn it together.
