How to convert specific heat from J/(mol K) to J/(g C)?
« on: May 02, 2021, 04:16:30 PM »
I'm trying to convert the specific heat of ethanol (molar mass of 46.07g/mol) and it has been given as 112.4J/(mol K). However, I want this to be in J/(g C)--in grams and Celsius. How would I go about doing this?

I know that normally converting mol to g would require multiplying by the molar mass, but how would this work with temperature in the denominator as well?

Thanks!

For Temperatur you can also use a conversion formula.
How much is 0° C in Kelvin.
If you know this then you can put this part in the formula J/ molK

So...the conversion formula from K to C is subtracting 273.15, so could I essentially just subtract 273.15 from 112.4J/(mol K) so that it would equal -160.75J/(mol C)?

No, because the increase of 1 K is the same as the increase of 1 C.

Aside of that, don't you see that temperature is in denominator, so it would be something like - 1 / 273  ;D
