I've been trying to figure out the equation for the reaction between glucose and hydrochloric acid for a couple of days, but none of my searches are yielding results.
My class hasn't learned any organic chemistry yet, which I assume is where this type of reaction would be covered.
I have tried to ask chemistry teachers at my school for help, but they weren't able to give me an answer either.
For specifics, these are the reactants:
2.0 mol dm-1 Glucose solution
Hydrochloric acid solutions with concentrations ranging from 0.2 mol dm-1 to 1.0 mol dm-1
All the solutions are made with distilled water
In each reaction, 25 mL of the glucose solution is mixed with 25 mL of the HCl solution.
As a note: while I haven't been able to find reaction equations of glucose and HCL, I have found reaction equations for glucose + Sulfuric acid. Would the reaction be similar for any combination of glucose and a strong acid?
If further information is needed, I'll try and provide it.
If I have broken any forum rules, please tell me and I will fix it.
