« on: August 12, 2023, 11:52:01 AM »
I'm looking for the point group of tetrafluoro cubane, I think it is D2h but I'm not sure and could not find anything online. Could someone help me?

No idea about the point group, but just "tetrafluoro" sounds highly ambiguous with eight carbons.

Yes, the symmetry will depend on where the fluorines are substituted. So, it is impossible to answer this question as stated.

I'm sorry for being so vague, the molecule that I wanted to know the point group for specifically is 1,2,4,7-Tetrafluorocubane

The molecule has three mutually perpendicular C2 rotational axes, three mutually perpendicular reflection planes, and an inversion point. This agrees with the assignment of a D2h point group, assuming no structural distortions, etc.

Thank you very much :)
