What's the correct name of this compound?
A) 3-methyl-6-(1-methylethyl)nonane
B) 6-(1-methylethyl)-3-methylnonane
I think the first one is correct but I'm not so sure because I don't remember the IUPAC rules.
Our teacher always calls this substituent "isopropyl".

The first one is correct. Smaller number first and alphabetical order. But also Isopropyl is still valid.

Thank you very much. For the same reasons 4-(1-chloroethyl)-2-iodo-3-methyloctane is correct for the following compound?

Isopropyl is not correct I think, isopropanol should be 2-propanol

Our UK exam boards prefer propan-2-ol

Valid, not prefered. The deffinition is that its a alkyl chain that is branched, isopropyl is not branched. They accept it because its so common.
