Unit cell mass calculation
« on: January 21, 2024, 06:45:28 AM »
I have been given a bcc unit cell of AgO2 and I need to calculate the mass of 1/100 mole of it.

I thought that Maybe by n=m/mw where n=1/100 mw=140 but I have 2 questions

1. Do I need to calculate molar mass according to the number of atoms in the unit cell? If so is it correct that there are 2 Ag atoms and 4 o2 atoms in a bcc unit cell?

Thank you

Unless you are specifically asked for the mass of 1/100 mol of unit cells, I would take it that you need the mass of 1/100 mol of the compound, for which you don't need to know anything about the unit cell.

There is no such thing as an O2 atom.

Do you really mean AgO2? I'm not sure silver superoxide exists, indeed I found a reference to superoxide reducing silver(I).

I checked again and yes, it is AgO2
the exact question is Calculate the mass of
1/100 moles of unit cells of silver oxide (I’m translating but that’s what is says)

Silver oxide is Ag2O, why do you insist on AgO2?

Only because that is what is written in the question, sorry, let’s assume there’s a mistake then.

How would I go about calculating the mass?
