Please help me with this buffer question.
« on: March 21, 2024, 07:05:22 PM »
Use these answers for questions 1-3.
(A) a solution with a pH less than 7 that is not a buffer solution
(B) a buffer solution with a pH between 4 and 7
(C) a buffer solution with a pH between 7 and 10
(D) a solution with a pH greater than 7 that is not a buffer solution
(E) a solution with a pH of 7
Ionization Constants
CH.COOH = 1.8 × 10 3
NH3 - 1.8 x 10 '
НСО3; K, = 4 × 107
Н2СО3; K2 - 4 x 10-11
1. A solution prepared to be initially 1 M in NaCl and 1 M in HCl.
2. A solution prepared to be initially 1 M in NazCO and 1 M in NaC2H302
3. A solution prepared to be initially 0.5 M in HC2H302 and 1 M in NaC2H302

I get that buffer is weak acid + conjugate, so I know 3 is a buffer but I’m lost on the PH parts of it…

For 1, what kind of salt  is NaCl , what acid is HCl
For 2 what is NazCO , mistyping?
For 3 , correct it is a buffer. Can be solved by using the Henderson Hasselbalch equation..
