Is it possible that the traditional understanding of orbital shielding in chemistry may be fundamentally flawed, leading to inaccuracies in predicting chemical reactivity and behavior?

As every simplified concept it is flawed by definition, so the predictions it gives are never exact. At the same time it proved to be helpful in countless cases.
