Everything is water soluble, sometimes just in incredibly small amounts ;)

But no, for all practical purposes abietic acid is not water soluble.

The real acid in molasses is, I believe, sulfuric acid which is derived from the sulfated polysaccharides present.

Solutions of molasses will dissolve iron & steel!

It's an ambitious project, but I think your resin will change properties depending on humidity?
