How to find the building blocks of a molecule
« on: October 01, 2024, 06:47:17 AM »
Hello, does anyone know how we can find the building blocks in the molecule ibrexafungerp ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

Well, I think I don't really understand what are the building blocks, then I tried to analyse which functionnal groups we can see in ibrexafungerp at first, but I don't catch if they are the building blocks or not. Moreover, I don't recognise some structures and groups in this molecule.

I think that it is fine to identify functional groups.  One interpretation of building block is that it refers to a biological molecule that serve as the precursor to the structure that you provided (triterpenoids would have been my assumption about the portion circled in green also).  Another interpretation is that it refers to synthetic building blocks.

Where does the question come from?

As far as I am aware "building blocks" are not precisely defined in chemistry, so whoever asked to identify them should explain what s/he means by that first.
