Rate of SN2 Reactions
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:00:10 PM »
Classify the following molecules in order of decreasing rate of SN2 reactions:

ethyl chloride = primary substrate = third fastest (3)
t-butyl chloride = tertiary substrate= slowest (4)
methyl chloride = fastest (1)
propyl chloride =  primary substrate; larger substituent = second fastest (2)

Thanks.

Did they specify 1-propyl chloride or 2-propyl chloride?

No, it just has "propyl chloride."
