Thermochemistry
« on: November 24, 2006, 07:12:54 PM »
Hi everyone, I am studying genetics and I have some problems with a exercise... I will be really gradeful if you help me with this, I am sitting for two days without going much far with this, I know it`s easy when you understand it..

1.The (simplified) chemical reaction for alcoholic fermentation of glucose is:

      C6H12O6 (s)   à    2 C2H5OH (l)  +  2 CO2 (g)       ?H = – 67,0 kJ/mol

Calculate the heat of reaction if one liter of wine, containing 95.0 g alcohol (C2H5OH), is produced. Is the process exo- or endothermic?

And the second one,on which I have really no idea, couldn`t find anything in textbooks...

2. Calculate the electric charge of one mole of electrons.

3 .Use the VSEPR method to predict

the arrangement of electron pairs in space
the molecular geometry

of the following ions and molecules:

SiCl4   SO3,      SO2,      NO3-,       NO2-

Help me please...
Thank you in advance...
