Here's the question asked:
Ea for the following uncatalyzed reaction is 14.0 kJ. Ea for the same reaction when catalyzed is 11.9 kJ.
O3(g) + O(g) 2 O2
What is the ratio of the rate constant for the catalyzed reaction to that for the uncatalyzed reaction at 25°C? Assume that the frequency factor A is the same for each reaction.
The method that the teacher said we should use is ln(k1/k2)= Ea1-Ea2/RT. So I plugged in 14 into Ea1, 11.9 to Ea2, 8.31 into R, and 298 into T. The answer to that was an extremely minuscule number, and the antilog of that was 1.000848 something. Hardly significant enough to be right. And I was right, it's wrong. I looked in the back of the book, and the answer is more than double what i got: 2.3. So what am I doing wrong here? Is the equation the teacher gave us incorrect or am I just a dunce? :p
