Ionic Equations- *delete me*
« on: February 26, 2007, 07:37:29 AM »
Ok I'm really confused about how to do this.  I've tried and can't figure it out, if someone could show me the answer I'd be eternally greatful.

-Reactions 1+3=2, but I don't know how to show this properly.

Reaction 1:
NaOH(s) ---> Na+(aq) + OH-(aq) + heat

Reaction 2:
NaOH(s) + H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) -----> Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) +H20

Reaction 3:
Na+(aq) + OH-(aq) + H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) ---> Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) +H20

Yeah that "H20" is water, I don't know how to type a small "2" on here, and sorry about the + and - signs, I'm not sure how to make those on top either.  Thanks if you can help me.

figuratively speaking, but not mathematically.

imagine reaction 1 took place before reaction 2. now is it necessary to write the NaOH(s) in reaction 2? what can we replace it with?

to make your words and numbers appear above and below, use [ sup ]2[ /sup ] and [ sub ]2[ /sub ], without the spaces.
