Hey all, I have an assessment to do for my Chemistry class at school, and I have to remove all of the carbon dioxide from a bottle of soda water, I don't need to be able to measure the amount of carbon dioxide lost, but being able to won't hurt.
My current idea is to add either a strong acid or base to the bottle as the following equilibrium
CO2 + H2O = H2CO3
favors either CO2 or H2CO3 solubility depending on the pH of the solution. I can't remember if adding a base or acid will favor H2CO3 solubility though. I would of course weigh the bottle of soda water and the amount of acid/base I add to the bottle first.
Any suggestions or better methods I could try are much appreciated
