Starting from lactic acid (racemic) and converting it by azeotropic distilation with toluene and later vacuum one to yeld racemic mixture of L, D and l,D- lactide (lactone dimeric form of lactic acid).
The same (or similar) with glycolic acid (no isomers) to yeld dimeric lactone called glycolid...So you have the two cyclic monomers which you could polymerize by cationic(preferably and most like with Sn-octanoate as initiator) or anionic Ring opening polymerization to yeld high molecular copolymer...Think about how you can manage the reaction conditions so to make random or block co-polymer.
