I try to prepare 1,2 dimethoxy benzene strating from catechol and iodo methan the problem that I found is th yeild is very low. I take on mole from 1,2 dihydroxy benzene with tow moles from iodomethan and 1.5mol KOH with DMSO as solvent with stirrer over night.
any body have exact procedure or idea to synthesis my combound?

I'm not really familiar with this kind of reaction, but is there a reason you're using DMSO as solvent?

1,2-dimethoxybenzene is commercially avaiilable and is very inexpensive, and to synthesize it, dimethylsulphate is an alternative.Should work with aq NaOH or KOH.To get a dimethyl ether, methylation must be exhaustive.Are you getting more yield of the monomethyl product?
and I am also curious as to why you are using DMSO as the solvent?

Actually the procedure that I found from the ref.
Canadian Journal of Chemistry 1990- 68 pp 1393-1398 (1H and 13C NMR studies of the conformational mobility of 1,2-dimethoxybenzene in solution ) but it was HTML.
it will be easy for me to buy if I found it.

Have you checked with Sigma-Aldrich/fluka?
