Petrol CO2 output
« on: May 06, 2007, 12:58:38 PM »
Hi I have this question:

Quote
C8H18 (petrol) gives 8CO2 (carbondioxide)

it takes 114g of petrol to travel 1 mile

Calculate the mass of CO2 produced when this car travels 1 mile

So 1 mole of petrol makes 8 moles of CO2

Petrol Mr is 114, which is convenient as 114/144 = 1. CO2 Mr is 44, so 1 x 44 = 44 then x it by 8 is 352.... is this the right amount of CO2 produced?

If so, say it was 228g of petrol to travel 1 mile, would the final answer be 704g?

Thankyou
