Determine the content of iron in materials
« on: May 09, 2007, 07:42:34 AM »
hi all, could you give me some advices?

I have a material. It was prepared by dispersing iron oxide/hydroxide on chitin polymer. I want to analyze the content of iron in materials. I've tried X-ray methods but there isn't any peak in X-ray spectrogram (maybe iron oxide/hydroxide are in very small scale, they don't exist in crystal form). Can you recommend me other methods  which can determine the percentage of iron without decomposing material?
Thanks a lot.

This will decompose the material, but you could determine the percentage of iron with ICP-MS. You would only need a tiny sample though, so you would not be losing much.

Thank you enahs.
I will decompose materials and use ICP-OES to determine iron concentration.
