Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows whether the most current recipe for Kryptonite in the new Superman film is technically feasible -- i.e. could one actually make a crystal form specifically from:

'Sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide with fluorine'

And also, would it be safe to attempt it?

this is basically a glass. probably not much different from borosilicate glass which is the typical glass used in laboratories

Search forums for kryptonite, IIRC there was report of very smilar mineral found this year.

That new mineral is called Jaderite and is

Sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide

Thanks, I heard about Jaradite. But assuming one had the specific 'ingredients', could a (preferably green) crystal-like form be synthesised?

Green with listed elements... I doubt. IMHO you will have to add copper or chromium, or perhaps some other transition metal.

And could this be achieved in the home, or would a laboratory need to be involved? (I have no idea how to make crystals... or even if this is safe)

Google growing crystals, there are many pages on the subject. But you probably better forget about growing crystal you want - that will be most likely tricky/slow/costly, assuming it will be possible.

If it is a glass, you would need to heat it up to a gassious state in order for it to form a crystal.

and to think i tought krytonite was just imagenary...
anyway that new jardinite sounds interesting...is there any studies about this rock?
i wonder if certain thiobaccilus consumes some of the rocks components
