naming compounds

I am not too familiar with the naming system...I know after the reaction in the diagram below, what structure will form. though I am not sure of the name.

my try at the name...is it 7-octen-1-ol?

octenoic acid is indeed among one of the choices. the 5 choices are 7-octen-1-ol
 7-octenal
  octanoic acid
1-octanol

in the diagram where c=o bond, will that get reduced to CH2?

hello!
in such cases v r suposd to specify d position of acid n ene ,
so d name should b ----->   Oct-7-ene-1-oic acid.

But carbon atom of carboxylic group always has locant "1", so correct name of your compound is: oct-7-enoic acid.

I got the correct answer now, and thought I should let you guys know, because it is actually 7-octen-1-ol.

We all thought that you want to know name of substrate  ;D But you're right - product of this reaction is oct-7-en-1-ol.
