Carbon subnitride or dicyanoacetylene (C4N2)
« on: June 12, 2007, 11:32:40 AM »
Hello,
I red that C4N2 burns in the air at a temperature of 4987 °C.I would like if it's true and -if it's possible- how to realize this experiment.
I thank you.

That sounds about right.  I know that I read that it was the hottest-burning substance in Guiness World Records [at the time, at least] although I swear the temperature was more like 9,000.

As far as realising the experiment, I'm not quite sure what you mean.  I'd suggest against trying to recreate that flame, though  :P

1. Make dicyanoacetylene (it is known and preparable through standard methods; I have the paper)
2. Burn it.
3. Record the temperature.

How you implement these steps is the hard part; the actual procedure is easy.
